OVERVIEW
Dorsch Ford Lincoln Kia is a proudly family-owned business in Green Bay. Its story began with Don Dorsch, who worked for Ford Motor Company as a dealer sales representative, a career that required frequent moves. After five relocations in five years, and welcoming four children in four different cities, Don’s wife voiced her desire to settle down into life in one spot.
In 1970, an opportunity arose to purchase a Ford dealership in Green Bay, and Don took the leap with his then-business partner, Don Yineman. The business has remained in the family ever since. Today, his grandchildren, Will and Alex Dorsch, lead the company. Over the past 55 years, Dorsch Ford Lincoln Kia has undergone rapid development and has grown from a strong family-owned business into one of the largest dealers in the state of Wisconsin.
When the time came to build a new Lincoln facility in 2024, the Dorsch team turned to Alliance, a construction partner who aligned with their values.
LOCAL PARTNERS
It wasn’t a difficult decision for the Dorsch team to choose Alliance; it was personal.
“The fact that Alliance is local means a lot to us,” Will Dorsch says. “We would prefer to do business locally and have partners that are in the community here.”
From the beginning, the project was different than others in the past. The process was both transparent and collaborative and supported the Dorsch’s goals.
“Every part of it has truly felt like a good partnership,” Will says. “It's been full of great communication. There are a lot of areas where the team has gone above and beyond to make sure that the project looks great. Our team is always in the loop with what's going on.”
The Dorsch team also values Alliance’s attention to detail. When building an automotive dealership, there are often rigorous requirements and strict standards. Alliance worked tirelessly to ensure compliance while also making sure they were being as cost-effective as possible.
“We truly valued the team spending the time to truly understand what our objective was and the key outcomes we were hoping for,” Will says. “Then they worked within the parameters of the system—along with Lincoln's brand requirements, our customer requirements, and our facility requirements to not disrupt our own business—to deliver an awesome outcome without providing any disruption.”
A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
Another significant detail that set Alliance apart was its integrated design approach. Design, architecture, and construction are all under one roof.
“It is an incredible competitive advantage,” Will says. “On other projects we have worked on, you are hiring your own architect, and it can be tough to ensure adequate communication and a seamless transition from design to as-built. Whereas here, having that all integrated made a huge difference. The architect, Kevin, was very involved throughout the whole process; he was at all of our weekly check-ins as things needed to be adjusted.”
MORE THAN A ONE-TIME BUILD
The partnership didn’t end with the Lincoln facility. Dorsch Ford Lincoln Kia returned to Alliance to assist with future expansion plans.
“It has been a continued partnership with great communication and an impressive say-do relationship, meaning that if they say something is going to happen, it gets done, doesn’t slip, and is well communicated,” Will says.
CONCLUSION
As the Dorsch family continues to grow their family business, they know they have a trusted partner they can count on.
“We've already recommended Alliance a number of times,” Will says. “I think the hands-on nature of the project managers and the integration between design, architecture, and true building and project management is truly exceptional and gives Alliance a big competitive edge.”
