Biggby Coffee

Tara and Jonathan Nyson are the owners of local Biggby Coffee locations in Appleton and Green Bay, Wisconsin, inspired by a long-standing family tradition of visiting the Michigan-based coffee chain. After nearly 15 years of planning, they opened their first location in 2023 and partnered with Alliance Construction & Design to bring their community-focused coffee shop vision to life.

OVERVIEW
For Tara and Jonathan Nyson, every trip to visit family in Michigan meant one thing: a stop at Biggby Coffee. Founded in Michigan, the coffee chain quickly became part of their travel tradition. They fell in love with the atmosphere, the fun music, warm smiles from the baristas, and the energy of the space. Over time, an idea began brewing—what if they could bring this tradition closer to their home in De Pere, WI?

They sat with the idea for nearly 15 years. Then, in June of 2022, an opportunity presented itself: a perfect building in Appleton came onto the market. They opened up their first Biggby Coffee in this space in January 2023. By June 2024, they expanded again, even closer to home in Green Bay.

A dream this Bigg didn’t come to life without the right people behind the scenes. That’s where their trusted partnership with Alliance Construction & Design in Wrightstown, WI, came in.

A SUPPORTIVE PROCESS
Before discovering Alliance, the Nysons had worked with construction companies that left them feeling stranded. Oftentimes, project managers were rarely on-site during the building process, communication was lacking, and in the end, Tara and Jonathan ended up finishing many parts of their project themselves. It made a complicated process even harder.

When it came time to build their Green Bay Biggby Coffee location, they were introduced to Alliance, and everything changed. Recommended by someone they trusted, Alliance lived up to its reputation from the first meeting. The process immediately felt easier for the Nysons because they felt supported, understood, and valued.

THE BIGG DIFFERENCE
From the moment Alliance stepped in for the Green Bay Biggby build, Tara felt the difference of working with Alliance. They took lots of photos. Measured everything. Asked questions some might have skipped, and then they came back with detailed blueprints and a clear plan of action.

“It was just really nice that someone took the time to get all the information,” Tara says. “It was a one-time thing. After that, we were able to make different adjustments as needed, but it was just great that they had it all prepared for us. It made it feel simple.”

The simplicity and detail-oriented approach didn’t end after the initial consultation. It continued throughout the entire process.

“That’s a very important thing Alliance does: they have a project manager on site most of the time, or at least checking in almost every single day to make sure that the project is going well,” Tara says. “I think that’s a huge asset to Alliance because it shows that they’re aware of things that are going on and they’re answering the questions and they’re getting things taken care of right away versus trying to call
someone after hours and saying this isn’t right or this is a problem that we’re having.”

Alliance’s presence helped the Nysons feel supported.

A TRUSTED PROCESS
After meeting Alliance, Tara and Jonathan knew they had a partner who cared just as much as they did about their dream.

“There were probably some minor hiccups, but the whole process felt pretty
seamless,” Tara says. “Alliance really cares about what they’re doing and who they’re working with, and it feels like they’re part of our family.”

Tara feels the entire team is reliable, honest, and dedicated. The partnership has been built on trust, and she knows they will always be there to help even after the project is completed.

“The Alliance team is the first people that I call when something isn’t right or isn’t working properly,” Tara says.

SHOWING UP WHEN IT MATTERS MOST
Alliance’s dedication was put to the test when a car unexpectedly crashed 70 feet into the Biggby Coffee location in Appleton. By sheer luck, Mariah from Alliance happened to be in the drive-through at the exact moment the crash occurred.

Without missing a beat, she sprang into action. Inside, water was spraying across the store. Mariah jumped over the counter to shut off the electrical and water lines, and then she called the Nysons, who were out of town, to update them. Mariah calmed the situation and quickly managed urgent logistics, including finding coolers to preserve food. In the few months that followed, the Alliance team worked relentlessly to reopen the store faster than the Nysons ever expected.

For Tara and Jonathan, Alliance’s actions spoke volumes, and it was made even clearer how committed the entire team is to their clients.

CONCLUSION
Today, Tara and Jonathan continue on their Biggby journey with the mission of improving lives. Whether it’s their employees, customers, or community, they are making a difference every day. Alliance helped lay the foundation for that mission and their dream.

“If someone is considering working with Alliance, I’d tell them they won’t regret it,” Tara says. “It’s a five-star, well-done program. Everyone has been absolutely wonderful and very knowledgeable. It’s just awesome.”

Bigg dreams need Bigg trust, and the Nysons have built that trust with Alliance. Their partnership is an essential ingredient in their continued success.
